The All-American Rejects Drop Short Film For “Sweat” & “Close Your Eyes”

After months of teasing, The All-American Rejects have finally released their highly anticipated new singles. Yes, they shared not one, but TWO new songs. “Sweat” and “Close Your Eyes” both appear in a new music video that doubles as a short film. The more upbeat of the two songs, “Sweat” starts the video with frontman Tyson Ritter dressed in drag. He goes by the name of Betsy, and struts around a nighttime street dancing and looking to pick up a client.

The night ends, and we later see Tyson as Robert, peeling off his fake eyelashes as he heads home in a BMW supercar. “Close Your Eyes” sets the tone, more somber and reflective. Robert joins a group of family and friends for a classy daytime party, but trouble seems to lurk below the pristine surface.

It’s been a long process getting to this point. The All-American Rejects’ last album, Kids In The Street, came out early in 2012. The music was more experimental, and despite their clear growth, the singles and album didn’t fare as well as previous efforts. The band went quiet for a few years, only releasing a new song, “There’s A Place,” in fall 2015. It appeared in the film Miss You Already, in which Tyson acted.

The All-American Rejects started recording new music in spring and summer 2016. They entered the studio again last January. Fans already got to hear one full new song from those summer sessions; they’ve only played “DGAF” live, but a studio version should be on the new album. As of December, its music video was planned and coming together.

“Sweat” and “Close Your Eyes” are just the first tastes of The All-American Rejects’ upcoming fifth album. You can stream the songs on Spotify or buy them on iTunes now. The still-unnamed new album will be out this fall.
