‘Turn It Around: The Story Of East Bay Punk’ To Premiere May 31st

Three years ago, Green Day revealed they were working on a documentary, tentatively called EAST BAY: By The Punx, For The Punx, About The Punx. The name has since changed, and now Turn It Around: The Story Of East Bay Punk is set to premiere at the San Francisco Documentary Film Festival on May 31st. Executive produced by Green Day and Pat Magnarella, Corbett Redford directed and produced the documentary. Iggy Pop narrates Turn It Around. The documentary features interviews with more than 40 members of the music scene. Members from Green Day, NOFX, Dead Kennedys, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Primus, AFI, and more all appear.

Turn It Around is a massive documentary that covers the East Bay punk scene from its beginnings in the 1970s through the rise of 924 Gilman Street to its legacy today. Fittingly, it debuts on the opening night of the 16th San Francisco Documentary Film Festival. On Wednesday, May 31st, the festival will kick off with the premiere of Turn It Around at the Alamo Drafthouse New Mission Theater at 7:oo pm.

You can purchase tickets to opening night screening of Turn It Around here. For more information about the festival and complete lineup info, visit: SFINDIE.COM

Following the film, SF DocFest will host a Gilman-style live music showcase party at DNA Lounge that will feature The Pathogens, The Love Songs, Kamala and The Karnivores, and Hammerbombs. The event is free with Opening Night Film Ticket Stub. Party only tickets are $10/advance, $12/door, $10 at the door with any Gilman membership card. The show is all ages.

Furthermore, the national theatrical run of Turn It Around will start a few days after the premiere.

Turn It Around is just the latest documentary related to Green Day. Earlier this spring Spotify shared Green Day: The Early Years. Last year, they (finally) released Heart Like A Hand Grenade about the making of American Idiot. Before that, we got Broadway Idiot, about the American Idiot musical, and Cuatro!, about their 2012 trilogy of albums. Meanwhile, Green Day just released their album Revolution Radio last year. It gave us singles “Bang Bang” and “Still Breathing.”

Be sure to see Turn It Around: The Story Of East Bay Punk if you can, and keep checking back here for all the latest music news.
