Throwback To Muse’s Best Song, “Starlight”
In 2006, alternative rock band Muse released their fourth studio album. The band had been steadily rising in popularity, both in their native United Kingdom and abroad. After starting with “Supermassive Black Hole,” “Starlight” was released as the second single from Black Holes & Revelations. The ballad, which gave the album its name, is perhaps the most universally appealing songs by Muse.
“Starlight” is led by beautiful piano and an uptempo drum beat. Guitars give the song edge, while frontman Matt Bellamy’s lyrics describe true love and devotion. He sings about missing his loved ones, but promises, “I’ll never let you go.” It’s a romantic song that’s as powerful as it is charming.
Up until that point in 2006, Muse had secured 3 top 10 singles on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States: “Time Is Running Out” and “Hysteria” both peaked at #9, while “Supermassive Black Hole” peaked at #6. “Starlight” was their 4th top 10 in the US, but their first to break into the top 5. “Starlight” peaked at #2. The success of these singles paved the way for Muse’s bigger hits, like “Uprising” in 2009 and “Madness” in 2012 and 2013. And even though Muse has had greater success in the last 10 years, “Starlight” is still a favorite.

Meanwhile, Muse released their 7th studio album, Drones, in 2015. For the last few months, Muse have quietly been working on new music.
