Kelly Clarkson, Sara Bareilles, & More To Appear On ‘Greatest Showman – Reimagined’ Album
Since its release late last year, the musical film The Greatest Showman has received widespread success and numerous awards. Its soundtrack, too, has been a huge success, winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Today, in a move similar to that of The Hamilton Mixtape two years ago, it was announced that this musical film’s songs are being transformed with a pop artist’s touch. In their forthcoming album, The Greatest Showman – Reimagined, eighteen artists cover fourteen songs from the film. Among them are Kelly Clarkson, Sara Bareilles, Panic! At The Disco, Kesha, Missy Elliott, Zendaya, and P!nk. This album also marks the recorded debut of P!nk’s daughter, Willow Sage Heart, who reprises “A Million Dreams.”

The choice of artists covering songs for The Greatest Showman – Reimagined is eclectic, but in most cases they are surprisingly fitting. Kelly Clarkson already covered “It’s Quiet Uptown” for The Hamilton Mixtape in 2016. Sara Bareilles has been heavily involved in the musical world lately, writing all the songs for the Broadway musical, Waitress, in which she briefly starred. In 2015, Sara also released an album of its songs with What’s Inside: Songs From Waitress, featuring “She Used To Be Mine.” Both Sara and Panic! At The Disco contributed songs to the SpongeBob Square Pants musical. And, like Sara, Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco has also starred in a Broadway musical, appearing Kinky Boots last year. Suffice it to say, popular musicians often dip their toes into the musical world.
Talking to Variety about how this project came together, Atlantic Records President (west coast) Kevin Weaver said:
We really realized we had something at the scale of what this was becoming, and we were quickly like, all right, do we want to do a deluxe version of the album for Mother’s Day? What would that look like? Do we want to take the original cast album and add a couple covers to it, or add some additional demos? But it felt like it warranted something much more significant and robust. Then you had people like Pink and Selena Gomez and other artists who were on social media posting themselves dancing to and singing the songs. And that was part of kind of what went into my epiphany that we have something that’s not only connecting with the masses, but it’s connecting with artists.
He also talked about how easily the artists fit with the musical tunes:
I mean, the Panic! guys definitely immediately got the connection with how the theatrical aspect of who they are as a band fits in the wheelhouse of what this was. Pink was posting stuff on social media with her and her daughter talking about it and singing the songs, so that was a natural fit. Sara Bareilles is very close with Benj and Justin, and so those guys actually had initiated her being a part of this thing, and she immediately reacted to it and that was one of the songs that we got done very early on.
Brendan Urie of Panic! At The Disco shared his own background on the project:
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are phenomenal writers. They sent that song over and said, “We think you should sing this.” And I heard it and I was like, “This sounds like a Panic! song. You guys did a Panic! song better than I’ve ever done a Panic! song. So I would love to.”
