Paramore In The Studio: August 2016 Updates

Five months ago, Paramore started recording their upcoming fifth album. At the time, the band was down to just Hayley Williams and Taylor York. Bassist Jeremy Davis left last December. However, in June their ex-drummer Zac Farro suddenly appeared in the behind-the-scenes shots Hayley shared on Twitter! That brought up a few major questions: Is he officially back with the band? Is he co-writing some of the new songs? Or is he just playing drums on the new record?

Earlier this month, Zac spoke on Billboard’s Alt In Our Stars podcast. He talked about rekindling his friendship with both Hayley and Taylor, playing on the new album, and how the new music sounds. He has not written any of the songs, and so far is not officially part of the band again. But he’d be happy to join them again as more than just a studio drummer.

Keeping up with the habits of the last few months, the duo has continued to shared studio updates throughout the recording process for album #5. Here’s the latest from this August:

With Jeremy gone and Zac kind of back, it will be exciting to hear how the music changes. Hayley and Taylor were the principle songwriters on Paramore, so there may not be a big change in style. But what about the topics? Will Jeremy’s departure and Zac’s return to the band come up?

Hayley also just married her longtime boyfriend, New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert, in February. Will married life affect the new music? Perhaps more lovey lyrics and cheerful music? On the other hand, Hayley and Chad have been together for eight years, so maybe there won’t be much of a change after all. We’ll find out soon enough!

Now that Paramore is actively recording the album, they’ve been generous with the studio updates. There should be plenty more studio updates and news over the coming months, too. While the album could be ready by the end of this year, it will most likely come out sometime in 2017.

Kelly Clarkson’s August 2016 Studio Updates: Diztortion & Snapchat

In June, Kelly Clarkson announce that, after 14 years with RCA, she has signed to a Atlantic Records. Furthermore, her upcoming 7th album will move in a decidedly more soulful direction. Instead of the pop rock anthems she’s known for, Kelly will take it back to her soulful roots this time around. The “soul pop” album will be out sometime in 2017.

Last month, Kelly started sharing some studio updates as she works on the new album. This August, Kelly shared even more from the studio – including videos and song snippets! We can hear some vocals in some clips – including some lyrics. We also know some of the writers and producers Kelly is working with.

In case you wondered about Kelly’s powerhouse vocals, those should be in tip-top shape on the new album. She’s working with a vocal coach. At the beginning of August, vocal coach Diane Sheets confirmed she was working with Kelly. Her July 30th Instagram post has been removed, but here’s the picture and caption:

So – this happened yesterday … ?❤️? @kellyclarkson thx @jasonhalbert

Another collaborator on Kelly’s next album? Hip-hop producer Diztortion. He shared a few snaps of him working with Kelly in the studio in early August. Watch as he comes up with backing vocals and teaches her how to use Snapchat.

They worked together again on August 10th:

Kelly also worked with Bobby Brass and Sammy Blues of Kuya Productions. They are best known for their R&B, pop, and hip-hop songwriting and producing. They wrote Alessia Cara’s hit, “Here,” so it’s safe to say they’ll craft something great for Kelly!

Continuing her busy month, Kelly worked with singer-songwriter Molly Kate Kestner, who is also signed to Atlantic Records.

Thanks to Diztortion, Kelly started her own Snapchat, and almost immediately started sharing song clips from the studio. About 33 seconds into the video of her snaps below, you can hear some backing vocals. The final snap also confirms that they “finished another song”:

Here are the rest of Kelly’s August snaps (not all of them are related to new music, but most are). Listen below for some more background vocals. What’s that about a “woman’s touch”?

In addition to moving to Atlantic and recording her soulful new album, Kelly has also had plenty of other events to keep her busy. Last April, Kelly gave birth to her second child, son Remington. Her daughter River Rose was born in June 2014. Her latest single, “Piece By Piece,” features River Rose in the music video. But its American Idol performance is what took the world by storm. Kelly announced a new children’s book, River Rose And The Magical Lullaby, will be out this October. Kelly also recently recorded a song for an upcoming film called The Secret Scripture.

Catch up on all we know about Kelly’s upcoming album, and keep checking back here for all the latest Kelly Clarkson music news, too. We’re sure to get more studio updates as Kelly continues recording the new album.

Metallica Announce New Album ‘Hardwired…To Self-Destruct’ – Hear The Title Track

It’s been 8 long years since Metallica released their last album, Death Magnetic. But their fans’ patience has finally paid off: The band is releasing their new album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, this November! The announcement also comes with confirmation of the 12-song tracklist as well as a first listen of their lead single, “Hardwired.”

“Hardwired” is an energetic song with blasting drums and spitted lyrics. You can hear traces of Metallica’s very first album, Kill ‘Em All, as well as some Slayer elements, in its straightforward, unrelenting intensity. The music video fits the song’s mood, as close-up shots of the band members flash across the screen. It’s chaotic, making it nearly impossible to get a clear image of what’s going on. It’s reminiscent of their video for “Enter Sandman.”

Watch the music video for “Hardwired” below:

Metallica’s new album includes 12 new songs. See the full tracklist below:

  3. N.W.O.B.H.M. A.T.M. (Riff Origins)
  4. Tin Shot (Riff Origins)

Hear Amy Lee’s “Dream Too Much” From Upcoming Kids Album

Ever since Evanescence released their self-titled third album in 2011, their frontwoman Amy Lee has been pushing her creative boundaries. In 2014, she released her first solo album, Aftermath. It was comprised of mostly instrumental tracks composed for the indie film, War Story. Earlier this year, Amy released a 4-song EP of covers. Now she’s trying something even more out of the box: A children’s album.

Dream Too Much will be Amy’s first kids album. She has a two-year-old son named Jack, so it’s the perfect fit for the new mother. The project originally started as present for Amy’s father. As she explained to Rolling Stone:

Dad has always been talking about making some kid songs for Jack to have later in life. [My husband suggested,] “You guys should just do it, get in the studio together, you’ve never been in the studio together, you’re both musicians.”

Amy and her father’s idea to make kid-appropriate music for Jack eventually turned into a family project. Amy recruited her sisters, Lorie and Carrie, to sing harmony with her. Their dad played ukulele, dobro, and banjo, while their Uncle Tom played guitar, bass, and harmonica. Even little Jack himself makes an appearance!

Amy described her family’s feeling about the project to Rolling Stone:

We’ve been saying, even if we’re the only ones who ever heard it … it was worth it because it means so much to us as a family and we love it. So, I’m very proud of it and it was very fulfilling to be able to do that together. … I’m always looking for ways that I can expand myself creatively and this was a surprise. This kind of came out of a very random place and a very pure place. It was just for ourselves and it turned into something really beautiful.

The album, Dream Too Much, contains 12 recordings. You can hear the title track below:

Dream Too Much is made up of both covers and original songs. You can see the full tracklisting below:

  1. “Stand By Me” – cover
  2. “Dream Too Much” – original
  3. “Bee And Duck” – from Sesame Street
  4. “I’m Not Tired”
  5. “Little Bird”
  6. “Alice”
  7. “Rubber Duckie”
  8. “Hello Goodbye” – Beatles cover
  9. “Donkey And Chicken”
  10. “The End Of The Book” – original
  11. “If You’re A Star”
  12. “Goodnight My Love” – R&B classic

Amy explained the inspiration behind one of her original songs, “The End Of The Book.”

Every time I would get to the end of a book he would cry … like seriously cry like, “I can’t believe we’re at the end of the book,” like, “Nooo.” And I’d be like, “Hey, dude … not the end … we can just read it again.” I thought that was really cute and sweet and it just ended up a song about the end of the book isn’t the end of the story.

Be sure to also check out this great behind-the-scenes look at the making of Dream Too Much:

Dream Too Much is available for pre-order now at Amazon, ahead of its September 30th release date. Digital pre-orders come with an instant download of title track. CD pre-orders, however, do not offer that instant download. The album is exclusive to Amazon.

You can read up on what we know about the album already, including some behind-the-scenes looks at the recording process. Dream Too Much will be out on September 30th. This is the first – and perhaps only – kids album Amy will release. As she mentioned to Rolling Stone, “I’m going to focus on the next thing being … more centered around my adult music career.” There’s no word yet on what is next – maybe a 4th Evanescence album? Keep checking back here for all the latest Amy Lee and Evanescence news.
